Been fairly interested in XS's for the last couple years and kinda off and on semi-serious about buying one. Looked around and found a couple but werent quite what I was looking for. I truely wanted to start with a stocker and build from there but came across a deal I couldnt pass up. Drove up to Texas today and picked up a 72 XS650 hardtail. Top end is fresh, forks recently rebuilt, weld on hard tail, modded Sportster tank, aftermarket ignition. It has some shifting problems with going in/out of gear. Im ordering a manual and will be doing the repair. From what Im finding it's got troubles with the shift drum. After it's up and running I plan on finishing it off to my liking...lowering the tank a little, ditching the sissy bar, powdercoated wheels, frame, tank and fenders, different forward controls and perhaps whitewalls and ape hangers. Here it is....Im pretty sure Ive got the only XS in town. Cant wait for bike nights.

07 z400-Yoshimura R3 full system,Uni filter,White Brothers CDI,Hydrodynamic +2 ST A Arms,G Force +2 axle,TCS Shocks w/remote rezzies,PEP stabilizer,RazrMXrears on ITP T9s, KendaMX fronts, Skat Trak 7paddle Haulers on Douglas .125s....I need more sig room

Looks scary to me. Mostly because of the removal of the front brake (that was not that great to begin with) and the single leading shoe drum brake in the rear, that is barely adequate with a front brake. Those XS650 engines are a pretty good motor, the shift drum is worn and not a huge thing to replace if your not scared of splitting the cases.

Yea the guy gave me a huge box of parts and the front brake is DEFINATELY going back on it. From what Im finding the cases dont need to be split, there's a plate on the bottom of the cases that gives access to the whole transmission. Im ordering a manual today.

Whats up Blue? How you been? Did I see where you sold your 700?
Anywho I just ordered some goodies. Manual should be here in a couple days. Just ordered a set or TC Bros foward controls and one of their nice looking tail lights. The current tail light is junky, to put it lightly. And the previous owner fabbed his own forward controls on the brake side but not the shifter side. These seem to be nice pieces and they look great.

Here's what they look like on a bike...

And here's the light I ordered.
