I am a customer service rep now. I took this phone call the other day, were this guy was asking me for someone that speaks in Spanish for his mom. I told him we did not have anybody that speaks in spanish where I worked. After going back an forth he makes this comment to me "This is America, you have to have someone that speaks spanish there" I again told him I was sorry, but we did not have anybody that speaks spanish. Even though it made me mad, I held my tongue, and think its funny now that he can't get help because he thinks we need to speak spanish.

Funny thing. In some of the industries that my company services the workers from the south do a good job of improving their English communication skills. Yes you can tell they speak Spanish in conversational speech, but when dealing with companies that supply the products they use (like our company) they speak English or do the best they can, but I have never had a person expect, let alone demand that I or anyone else in my company speak Spanish to them.

Welcome to Canada. A lot of places make it mandatory that people speak english AND french. Not to mention the fact that people from the middle east come, and want us to change everything to suit them. (sadly, our government almost always listens to them)

It is sad this is what the U.S.A. has come to. I have been told by some spanish speaking citizens it is my job to speak Spanish. I would like to tell them to F*** Off but I can't.

Canada's 2 native languages are English and French, so that makes a little more sense rather than being in America and being told to speak spanish. Just because we can't close our border doesn't mean we should have to learn another language.
My buddy was going to get a sticker for the back of his truck that I'm sure you've all seen before "welcome to America, now speak English"... how ever, if they don't speak English, 9 times out of 10 they can't read english either. So He told the guy to get it in Spanish.

Problem is most of them are illiterate in their own language as well so putting a sign in Spanish is not a guarantee they will be able to read it. Although I have to say there are some REALLY dumb and illiterate Americans running around too, and I believe some of it is due to the ever growing texting, oops I mean "txtng" generation that is ruining our own language.

when the rental was up and running we had lots of spanish speaking people come in and the funny thing is they all spoke some degree of English, there friends would say they could not talk in English, but if you watch them close and see there eyes go wide when you tell them that they own for crash damage. I was good at watching body lang, I could tell who did what to witch quad.
