I live in Eastern Nebraska and am looking for a new place to ride my sport quads. The National Forest at Halsey was recently closed to quads so I need to find a replacement. It had miles of great trails. Need help!

Halsey is still open, they just closed a large area of grassland that used to be ridable. Genoa/Headworks (contray to popular belief you DO NOT need an NOHVA membership to ride there as they would have you think) is a sandy river bottom with about a 1/2 day's worth of riding, nothing technical mind you but close enough to get a fix now and then. Cedar Run down by the Harlan County Lake just expanded a trail system to 470 acres with about 14 miles of trails. Good camping spots as well. I have pics if need be. There is also a place called South O the Bridge near CB/Omaha as well as the River Valley OHV park (requires an Iowa or other states OHV permit) There is also the Offroad Ranch in Norfolk if you like drag racing and motocross.

How much of Halsey is still open to quads? It was my understanding there were only a few miles of trails still available around the outer edges of the Forest. I have been to Genoa a few times, but I believe it may be closed due to flooding last week.

I have not been there since the "closure" but my understanding is that most of the original trails are still intact. Might want to call the ranger district to confirm all this as my information might not be that accurate. And yeah Genoa is closed temporarily from the flooding, but it will be back open after all that mess clears out. I understand that there is some riding still open there just very limited as the water is still high. Other than the numerous motocross tracks around the eastern part of the state (including IA and MO) Cedar Run near Alma (Harlan County) is your only other place to ride except private land that you would need permission.

Since some rains a few weeks ago ALL of Halsey's trails are closed, and will remain closed for the near future pending repairs.
Check out this link: USDA Forest Service LINK
Halsey OPEN trails
The trails at the Bessey Ranger District near Halsey that are remaining open are:
The Dismal River Trail (Trail 112)
The Power Line Trail (Trail 113)
The Poison Ivy Trail (Trail 114)
Fence Line Trail (Trail 115)
A short section of 214 located in the south part of the Forest
Trail 120
Trail 121
Trail 118
Trail 119
ATV and dirtbike access in the main campground, the Bessey Recreation Complex will continue for this year. If there continues to be problems with riders ignoring the rules, the campground will be closed later to ATV and dirtbike riders.
Trails that were heavily used by ATV and dirtbike riders that are now closed are 201 and most of 214. These are the trails that go through the more flat pairie terrain.
Hope this hopes with clarifying which trails are open and closed.

In wisconsin, we don't have much for public riding. The best trail system, hands down, is Black River Falls. The problem with those trails is that they are designed for sport quads. (which I personally have no problem with, but I know others do) The trail system is open most of the year, only closing for the thawing season and hunting. They do not allow Dirtbikes out there anymore, which can be a P.I.T.A. depending on who you ride with.
There are also trails in Monroe county that are supposedly really nice.
Other than that, there aren't any other really good trails (that I know of) in the state, it kind of sucks...

Wisconsin has great trails, all in a connected system, from the Minnesota border all the way to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Specifically Hayward, Park Falls and Mercer-Hurley areas have the most connections, and they're all ATV-friendly towns where you can ride through, stop and get what you need. The northern third of the state is filled with trails, and I've heard good things about the Black River Falls riding.
Minnesota's riding areas are mostly isolated, and not connected to each other - but there are a lot of fun places to go - the Iron Range OHV Park in Eveleth, Red Top in Isle, MN, Spider Lake, St. Croix and the Akeley area are some of my favorites.
Also, the Upper Peninsula has a lot of riding that I've yet to check out. Near Ironwood looks good, towards Lake Gogebic, and also up in the Keeweenaw Peninsula.
