Dont be so quick to blame this on the union, Toyota which is non union pays higher wages with better vacation. (i have family that works at Toyota and friends at GM) Mismanagement created this problem, the Jap manufacturers kept things under control.

GM should start by building better cars to add to their truck heavy line up. Pontiac hasnt made a decent car for decades, sorry Grand Prix fans, they're junk, consumers reports ranked the Grand Prix as fit for the rental industry.
On top of that, GM should close every plant they have in Mexico and move all that back to the States and Canada as a token of appreciation for the bail out. Any remaining vehicles produced in Mexico should all be painted pink.

GM needs to get back to basics. They ran that company into the ground, making a horrible name for themselves. I agree, they should close all foreign plants, but we all know they won't.

over30 is right, they have one good car - the Cobalt. Everything else they make (car wise) is a pointless vehicle. I think they should "cut the fat" , lower ALL wages, and bring their vehicle prices back to reality, as every company should do! There is no god damn way a new truck should cost $45,000!!!!!

This is why the cobalt was on the least reliable compacts list. It is just as much junk as the cavalier was. Just do a search for reliable vehicles and you will find the cobalt at the top of the least reliable list almost everywhere you check.

I read a quote a while back from a GM representative and it said and this is no joke "we are making them cheaper so you can buy them cheaper". Well that tells me one thing, if you buy GM your getting something cheap.

GM has probably the best overall drivetrain but they got nothing to go around it.

Ive had a few GMs like an 01 Lumina, a 99 Monte Carlo, an 88 Scottsdale and a 95 Regal. The Regal was the only one that was reliable. The 3.8 is a great motor.

I didn't say they had a car that was of any competition for the rest of the market, but they have one good car they make, and that's the cobalt. I know a few people with them, and they love them. But they don't compare to any other vehicle out there.

I, personally, drive trucks. I have a 2003 chevy silverado 1500 that has been nothing but good to me since i've owned it. I would NEVER buy a GM car though. If you want a good car that gets great gas mileage, reliable as hell, great resale value with endless possibilities then get a Honda. Best car maker out there, hands down.
