haha. Camo, you always have to inject sex.....LOL!(behind closed doors) I think if you have hunted much at all, there has been times the law is bent,to your way of thinking about poaching.Swampy: As far as buying a scope to impress my friends, that is far from being the truth. I like good equipment, and can afford it,so I buy Swarovski glass. As far as visibility, they are the best at low dark when the last two minutes makes a difference between a trophy buck or shooting a doe on a greenfield.Your reasoning is a poor excuse for not wanting to spend the money.Do you really think some one would pay 2400.00 bucks for a scope that was no better than a water pipe on a barrel? Its all in the lens, and the European scopes have the best lens. The best American scope,in my opinion,is Leupold. BTW as long as you can see the deer, with out artificial light, its leagal in Al.

But you might impress somebody somewhere down the line Just not me. I personally would never spend over $500 dollars on a scope. Mainly because I can't afford it, and secondly, when I did hunt, it was in very rough terrain. Lots of exposed rock and steep grades. My Dad took 26 deer in his lifetime, with various rifles and shotguns. All with conventional iron sights. I'm too embarrassed to say how many deer I've taken;it's about the same # as Willie's IQ.

My .300 WSM is the first rifle I've owned, as well as the first scope'd weapon I've hunted with. I have bagged deer with my 20 Ga. with open sights, but yet to get one with the scope. I was always against using a scope, mainly because where I hunt for white tail you don't really need one. Thick woods, scrub oak all over yada yada yada.

A scope can really throw you off in thick brush at times. Confuses you're sense of bearing, in relation to the landscape.
