TTP, my Taurus 45 holds 15 rounds, but with the right ammo (Speer Gold Dot 185 grain being my current choice), one anywhere in the chest will stop anyone. Shock index is just as important as shot placement in a critical situation. With adrenalin pumping and nerves on edge, not too many shooters are concerned about, or capable of, precise shot placement.

A study was done of police shootings concerning which calibers and loads for them did the most one shot stops on hyped up perpetrators. The results were that the two loads I mentioned above had the best one shot stopping power. The 9mm was way down on the list, except with high velocity 115 grain premium hp bullets. There was one case where a police officer emptied his 9mm Glock (124 FMJ bullets) into a perp who was hyped on meth, and the perp still got to him and stuck a knife into his guts.

Calling a illegal immigrant an "undocumented worker" is like calling a drug dealer an "unlicensed pharmicist". Both are criminals!

15 rounds for a .45 pistol is perfect, yes i agree the .45 is more powerful than 9mm, no argument there, but unfortunately most of the 45's have less than 10 rounds capacity.
However let's analyze for a minute the typical scenario where the average joe is most likely to use his gun, which is at his house at night when he and his family are asleep, somebody breaks in, he wakes up and grabs the .45 he keeps in the drawer and confronts the drug crazed pervert, but wait, the felon is not alone, and our unlucky guy realizes his gun only packs 7 rounds x clip, and has no time to look for more ammo, he could find himself in a very tight spot, and what if the bad guys are packing? forget about it, he's dead meat.
for that reason i prefer a hi-cap 9mm anytime, personally, i have a 33 round Magazine on my glock at home, cause when i go to bed at night i sleep better knowing i have more to give.

For that reason, anyone who has a 7-8 round 45 should have a second mag with the weapon at all times.

I wasn't aware they made a 33 round mag for the Glock. That should CYA in most situations. I hope you use hi-velocity hp bullets.

Just let us hope none of us need to use any of our weapons for the intended purpose. But with the conditions being set up now, I would not count on it.

If you have that many guys packing in your house, I don't think you'd have time to fire 33 effective rounds. A gun is used first as a deterrence. If that doesn't work, then unfortunately things can get bad in a hurry. I have 2 magazines for the 1911 that I keep Speer Gold Dots loaded in, but I only load one at a time and rotate them every other week to prevent spring fatigue. I have the 1911 by the bedside, but I also have the Beretta shotgun right by the headboard for just that occasion.

Also got a Mosin Nagant M91/30 rifle with a bayonet that would scare the daylighs outta anybody, but there's no way I'm using that as home defense. That sucker is LOOOOONG. But it means business....lol.

Better to keep both loaded with one or two rounds short than to keep one empty. I keep 13 in my 45. If i need more than that, I needed a machine gun.

A 12 Gauge is more than enuff for home defense, enough massive power to knock anybody down, i don't care whose it is, even if the perp is high as a kite, just ask Tony Montana, lol.

Yeah, I have an "Modified" 870 for a back-up in case my clips run empty in the 45.

I keep a double action 357 Ruger in one room, and a PLR 16,and a 38 S&W in another room.My shotguns are locked in the safe.BTW, I always shoot for the head.or neck...the foe could have a vest....a wheel gun is a weapon you don't have to think about, and double action is deadly, just ask Clint Eastwood....if you need more than six shots, your in a heap of trouble anyway. If the shot gun has a short barrel Ithaca 12 ga,it is the best, I don't have one. I can also place handguns in smaller less conspicuous places than a shot gun.

There have been numerous studies that state that 1/3 rounds actually impact a target during a gunfight. Keep in mind that these instances usually take place within 7 feet! Now, that said, I realize that no two instances are the same. I pray I never have to fire any of my firearms in self defense. One, I don't want to take a life if I don't have to, and two, I really don't want the legal hassles that follow suit. Remember, if there is ever a home invasion, most states have a law along the lines that you can use no more force against them than they are against you. For example, if BG has a baseball bat, you can't just shoot him. You have to be able to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that he was there with the intent to inflict serious bodily harm on you or a family member.

The 1 in 3 rule is the main reason I want the biggest caliber I can afford/handle for a home defense weapon. If I am only going to hit the creepers
once in three times, I want the once to do as much damage as is possible. The 12 ga. with 00 buck fits the bill better than any handgun except the really big boys. like the 454 Casual and 480 Ruger. And although handling is adversely affected, an 18.5" barrel and pistol grip brings handling pretty close to a handgun. Besides that, pointing a 12 ga. at a creeper commands instant attention.
