Now I wonder why it is that Honda has, and does, sell more quads than Suzuki? Think it is because of all those old Hondas that are still in service after 25 years? Old Suzukis are just not around like the old Hondas are. Seems that reliable/durable does not fit the description of Suzuki.

Fact is, of all quads made, the TRX300 is the most long lasting and durable. The numbers out there still in service proves it,

Anyone know anybody that still has a KQ300 in running order and regular use?

I have owned three Suzuki quads, and from personal experience I can say they are not as durable as Hondas.
The ones I owned are still going strong,Honda had a bigger dealer network, and spent quadtruple more money on advertising, which produced more sales. I have been using ATVs for many years, and the best I have seen out of Hoda was the Foreman. We used them at a duck camp in Texas, and they were Mexican proof. On the other hand, my Suzuki KQs are still working and hauling deer out of the woods.

my 9.5yr old XR650R has seen countless desert miles, brutal single track, river bottoms, and highways and still pulls 105mph on top and at 600 miles when i change the oil it comes out brown not BLACK like it has been burnt up
on the other hand my raptor i can change the oil after 50 miles and its BLACK as can be and that XR gets run just as hard, but for longer distances

I had a Ford explorer, that now has 253000 miles on it(sold it to a friend, all he has ever done is,batterys, oil, filters, tires, and brakes.....no majors....and this guy is no maintenance guru...the point is Honda is not super natural, just caste steel. On the other hand the 300 KQ has engineering superiority, with locking diff,15 forward gears and three reverse, and one of the first to have independent suspension. The low granny gear was a first.

Reliability ratings (IMO) would go like this...
1. Tie between Honda and Yamaha
2. Suzuki
3. Kawasaki
4. Polaris

I can't (won't) speak to Can-Am as I've never owned one.

If you factor in features w/ reliability...Honda drops down on the list to #2 IMO...but still ahead of Kawi and Polaris because while they have lots of features - I don't like their configurations, so I'd rather have a Honda without these features than a Polaris or Kawi with them.

Just my .02...for what it's worth.

Hi all my first post here,I ride a honda 250ex (2002). We ride the frozen rivers in michigan,When one day i fell through the ice in about 6 feet of water. It took about an hour for us to get her out then half an hour to tow her back to the garage she was a solid block of ice. But when she thawed out she started up no problem. Its the only quad i have owned but i don't think i would ever buy anything but Honda. Just my opinion

Welcome to the forum, nictim. There are not many Honda fans here, so be prepared for some snide remarks and abuse. There are other forums that are much more Honda-owner friendly.

There are LOTS of Honda Fans (I am one of them)...but there are a LOT more Honda fans here that have taken a break from Honda to experience the competition due to the advanced features that are available from other ATV companies.

Just because we argue about Honda being "behind the times" does not mean I'm not a fan of Honda. I am absolutely a fan of Honda ATVs, and would buy one in a heartbeat as a ranch ATV or for work. No doubt about it!!

Many of us that WoodsRunner thinks are "not Honda fans" are extreme 4x4 trail riders that need the extra advanced features (primarily diff lock) that other ATV brands offer and Honda does not.

Also...WoodsRunner...that sig line is freaking AWESOME!! I'm going to post it over on my facebook acct as we speak!!

I am not anti Honda,I think some of the older Hondas were superb as utility rides. The Foreman was a well built machine. My problem with Honda is cost. Also their updates or yester year. To each his on....I think most ATVs are engineered for certain situations. As I said before, Suzuki pioneered 4X4s and have built some fine equipment.I don't know anything about racing atvs, but I would think Honda would be in the 5.

It's all about the GAS GAS models. IDK where you can get them or who would want one, but with something called a GAS GAS it CAN'T let you down!!!!

(obnoxious post? maybe.. but i didnt read any of the thread and im sure its all about honda vs everyone again)

In almost every forum I visit I hear a few people badmouthing Honda for not "Keeping up with the times". Obviously Honda does not want to keep up with the other manufacturers in some aspects. The fact that Honda STILL outsells every other brand of ATV speaks for itself, therefore the larger majority of ATV buyers do not care about certain bells and whistles that some of you put so high on your priority list.

As for the "extreme 4x4 trail riders" syndrome, I have ridden the Rincon on some of the best trails in the eastern US, and STILL see no need for a locker, or high power outputs. Now admittedly I do my best to stay out of the deep mud, and there are no extreme boulder crawling areas where I ride, and in those two instances I can see where a locker would be beneficial. But I ask everyone who has one: How many times have you used your locker? Being honest, unless you are a mud freak, I doubt it is very often, if ever. But still, the same people who holler about Honda not having one, and have one themselves, seldom if ever use it. In the all the group riding I have done, I have seen another rider engage a locker ONCE, to get through a mudhole I successfully traversed after him without a locker. So, why is it so important if you never use it? Makes no sense to me and never will. When 2wd sports quads will successfully navigate 99% of the trails in the entire country, it makes no sense at all.

Enough rambling. I have better things to do.
