RE: Yfz450 or z400?!

i havent seen a z400 come out and be competitive in 2 years now and i dont see it happening, its a great bike no doubt but with todays 450s they just dont compete, ive ridden one on the track and its just all wrong for racing, even when this noe was widened and had minor motor work

RE: Yfz450 or z400?!

i personally won't buy anything that has been modified by the previous owner, paper work or not. If you're looking for pure speed, then there is a clear winner. But with a post like that, asking this question, I have to ask- how much riding experience do you have? If you have a fair ammount of riding under your belt, are good with clutching to control power, and ready to put a lot of wrench time (or money) in to keep up on mainenence, and mods then get yfz. IF you're new to the sport quad scene, not to good with clutching, don't feel comfortable at high speed maneuvering, don't have the money/time/knowledge to keep up on maintenence but want to be the bad ass with the fastest quad, get the 400, or something smaller till you are comfortable with your riding skill level, and know what you are doing. also keep in mind that 450's aren't the best on trails, or anything other than tracks, and track-like situations, whereas the z400 can be used on the track and be a contender, but yet still be ab;e to go casually cruise the trails with out constantly being inbetween gears (trust me, it can be a pain in the arse). So answer that question, and think about which one will suit you better. Both are very good quads, from what i see, hear, and read. a z400 isnt a contender on teh track anymore, maybe a few years back but not now. honestly id go with the 450, the yamaha really isnt a race bike out of the box, its narrow with 20 inch tires and not much power, its a high performance trail bike that can be modified to race competitively.

RE: go fast parts

powerbombs are nice, but i hate the fact that they bulge out right by your leg! I thought my dasa was bad, till I got on my buddies 450 with a powerbomb header! but for your set-up, a powerbomb should meet the need, and you should feel a fairly large difference once you get it on. a 440 kit needs to breathe, and the stock header isn't allowing it to do that to it's full potential. i think youre thinking about fmfs megabomb, the powerbomb doesnt really bulge out much, the megabomb i can see being a problem

RE: go fast parts

RE: KTM 350SXF

i think it would be a flop. with KTMs current ATV selection selling way below the amout they had expected, it seems stupid to introduce an entirely new machine, i say entirely new because for this to work teh chassis would have to be revisited as well as all handling and suspension components in order to make this machine truly easier to ride. second, the 450 quads are really not that hard to ride, one of the series i race in uses transponders and posts laptimes, often my fastest times are near the end of the race, which is a 15 minute moto(i do realize AMA pros run 25 minute motos). But my practice routine is a string of half hour motos with 20 minute breaks, and its still not all that tiring. I personally am not in the greatest shape, my endurance is high but im a skinny kid so i dont have the muscle to throw the machine around as easily as many of the older riders. Third, the ATV racing industry needs to grow before a new class like this is introduced, with the amount of entries i see in the beginner classes i dont think there would be enough interest especially since there is already a highly competitive sportsman(blaster/rappy 250/300ex) class. i dont see the parents of these young kids (theyd have to be in the 12-13 range because at 14 you are legal to race a 450) shelling out the cash for a machine that their kid could get sick of, and with a kid that size on something with that much power( the bike claims 50hp, so the quad would have to be in the 35-40 range) injury is always a big concern

RE: 1st win of the season

exactly, maintenance is crucial, especially on the SX models, the XC had teh RFS motor taht just goes forever, but that SX is a whole different animal on teh track.
